"On the 21st of August 2020 at 13.00 (EEST) I arrived to Kuressaare that is on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia.
At 13.33 (EEST) I received a phone call from my mother. She said, “A great grief has happened. Father has died”.
At 15.40 (EEST) I got on a bus to go back to Viljandi.
At the same time, I was calling Ukrainian Embassy trying to figure out how and when I can go back to Kyiv amidst the pandemic. There were no guarantees I could return to Estonia again if I had left. With all the flights cancelled and new regulations in place, it would have taken me at least 4 days from that time on in order to reach Ukraine.

I listened to my father’s funeral on the phone.

The last time we talked on the phone, he has asked me whether I’ve eaten any nuts since they’re so good for health. He then told me about his plans to grow fields of hazel.

On the 4th of November 2020, I bought a hazelnut tree in Lohkva, Tartumaa.
At 15.50 (EET) I got on a bus from Tartu to Kuressaare.
At 21.30 (EET) I arrived in Kuressaare.
The next morning I planted that hazelnut tree in Kuressaare Lossipark next to the European beech “Atropunicea”.
At 15.40 (EET) I got on a bus to go back to Viljandi.

I hope you will be fine (t)here."
